Research to develop technologies for enhancing knit product functionality

【Supercategory:3. Textile Category:3.1 Fabrication Subcategory:3.1.2 Knit

Because the fibers of knit fabrics are subjected to more bending than those in sheet or woven fabrics, it has not been possible to knit materials with high rigidity such as carbon fiber due to the damage caused to their fibers by the knitting process. This research succeeded in knitting carbon fiber by covering it with another fiber. Where it has been difficult to manufacture three-dimensional CFRP shapes due to the labor- and cost-intensive nature of such work, the fibers in the seamless knit studied in this research can be knit into three-dimensional shapes, making it possible to manufacture carbon fiber substrates with three-dimensional shapes easily and at low cost.
