Covering process of high twisted silk yarn for controlling the occurrence of snarl

【Supercategory:2. Fiber manufacturing Category:2.2 Fiber manufacturing Subcategory:2.2.3 Texturing

We studied the use of a water-soluble fiber covering for high-twisted silk yarn applied using a designer twisting machine as a way to prevent snarl, which is a problem when handling high-twisted yarn. The results of an experiment with knit fabric to which this covering process had been applied indicated that no snarl occurred and that there were no improperly formed stitches. The water-soluble fibers broke down readily after 10 minutes in a hot water bath at about 90C, leaving knit fabric comprised of 100% high-twisted silk yarn.
