Physical properties and dyeability of thin denier silk “Gunma-hoso”

【Supercategory:3. Textile Category:3.1 Fabrication Subcategory:3.1.1 Fabric

We compared raw silk from the “Gunma-hoso” variety of silkworms, which is original to Gunma Prefecture, to the “Gunma 200” variety, which more closely resembles normal silkworms, and found that the latter has thinner constituent filaments and that it fluoresces differently when exposed to ultraviolet light. When we produced fabric using “Gunma-hoso” silk and investigated its whiteness, specular gloss, and dyeability, we found that those properties are roughly equivalent to those of silk from normal silkworm varieties and that it can be handled in the same manner.
