【Supercategory:7. DESCENTE SPORTS SCIENCE Subcategory:7.17 Vol.17

There was no report concerning about the effects of the hormone treatment on the physical performance of amenorrheic athletic women. We studied five amenorrheic sedentile women about their athletic performance with or without hormone treatment. On the 6 to 8 th day from the beginning of the hormone treatment (N=4 ; ethynylestradiol 0.05 mg, norgestrel 0.5 mg ; EP. group, N=1 ; conjugated estrogens 0.625 mg ; E group), 1,000m running test was done. On the other day, without hormone treatment, the same running test was done, again. Just before the running test, body weight was measured and blood samples were colleted. During the running, heart rate was measured every 5 seconds. The running time was recorded. After the running, rating of percieved exertion was asked.
Body weight was increased on hormone treatment in all of EP group members. Better running time was recorded in the second trial in 4 of 5. Mean heart rate was always lower during the running in the second trial. Serum hormone levels were not differed between two trials in EP group. White blood cell count was increased with the use of both hormones. In the running trial with EP, rating of perceived exertion was greater in 3 of 4.
It is suggested that treatment with small amount of estrogen - progestogen complex don't affect serum hormone levels and may not affect athletic performance, either. Although, perceptive rate of exertion is increased. Further study is necessary to make a clear conclusion.
