Development of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics using commingled fiber

【Supercategory:4. Techtextiles Subcategory:4.1 For general industrial use

In making carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics(CFRP), a method of producing commingled fiber (mixed fiber) from carbon fiber and thermoplastic fiber is known. In this study, we prepared fiber of poly(phenylene sulfide), and commingled fiber with carbon fiber by air commingled. After weaving the commingled fiber, CFRP plate was developed by stacked and press molding fabric.
Three-point bending strength of the CFRP was 531MPa, inter-shear stress was 535MPa. In comparison with the CFRP which was made of carbon fibers and film strength was low and bending, inter-shear shear stress was high.
