Development of three-dimensional molding Carbon Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics using commingled fiber

【Supercategory:4. Techtextiles Subcategory:4.1 For general industrial use

Establishment of a technique for forming three-dimensionally deep drawing or the like of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics (CFRP) is demanded. In order to use the feature of fabric with a high formativeness for the three-dimensional shape, it was examined a molding technique used method commingled (mixed fiber) with thermoplastic fibers and carbon fibers. We made reforming polypropylene (PP) fiber by the melt spinning, and then made a covering yarn of carbon fiber by method of the double covering using PP fiber and carbon fiber under the conditions of 100T/m (number of turns). Then we made weaving by using the covering yarn. and made a hemispherical CFRP of φ100mm and 25mm height by laminating and press molding fabric. The surface of that hemispherical CFRP was not found that the disadvantage of ruck and change in shape. The compressive strength of the CFRP was 3.57kN.
