Development of materials with fast-drying, heat-retaining, and other characteristics using dyeable polypropylene fiber

Utilizing technology for manufacturing dyeable polypropylene fiber that has been studied at the Industrial Technology Center, we produced dyeable single polypropylene yarn with a thread count of 40 and investigated the resulting yarn and fabric characteristics as well as improvements to dye homochromy relative to wool in an effort to develop textile product such as inner wear and T-shirts with excellent lightweight, heat-retaining, and drying characteristics. The fabric we produced exhibited excellent heat-retaining and drying characteristics, and we found that it could be combined with cotton in a two-layer structure to yield an excellent sensation of dryness while being worn. A study of dyeing aids yielded improvements in the dye homochromy of dyeable polypropylene and wool.
