Development of Sportswear Design Assisted System Based on Numerical Expression of Colour Emotion

We have examined to analyse quantitatively the feelings of colour in terms of colorimetric values. With the results of comparison between visual assessments and CIELAB values, the following empirical formula was derived to represent the feelings of colour.
CE = [{kL(L*-L*o)}²+{kA(a*-a*o)}²+{kB(b*-b*o)}²] ¹/²+KM
Where,
CE :Prediction value of the colour emotion
L* :CIELAB metric lightness
C* :CIELAB metric chroma
L*o, a*o, b*o :CIELAB L*, a* and b*, when the colour emotion percent is minimum
kL :Constant of the contribution of CIELAB L* for the colour emotion
kA :Constant of the contribution of CIELAB a* for the colour emotion
kB :Constant of the contribution of CIELAB b* for the colour emotion
kM :Constant for the scaling of the colour emotion
We also tried to develop a sportswear design assisted system based on the numerical expression of colour emotion. We suggested an interface model to show a colour emotion diagram based on the visual assessments on a computer display, and discussed about the application of the system.
