PDF The Characteristics of Body Surface Oscillation during Exercise and Its Prevention by Wearing Leotards

【Supercategory:7. DESCENTE SPORTS SCIENCE Subcategory:7.26 Vol.26

In this report we examined body surface oscillation during exercise and its prevention by wearing leotards. The characteristics of surface oscillation were examined by using a 3D-kinetic analyzing system under various exercise conditions. Exercise conditions included stepping, going up and down a footstool, squatting, jumping, side steps, raising a leg at a right angle, and diagonal movement. Subjects wore a brassiere, cotton leotards, or nylon leotards, along with leggings. The values of clothing pressure, pressure sensation, and oscillating sensation were also measured. The acceleration, and the angular acceleration were analyzed.
The results of acceleration and angular acceleration suggested that oscillation was the greatest at the nipples during jumping exercises, and the buttocks and abdomen in exercise using the lower body. The combination of leotards and leggings supported the abdomen and buttocks. The clothing pressure of nylon leotards and its support were the greatest compared to other clothing types. From the results of acceleration and angular acceleration, we found that leotards prevented more oscillation than brassiere. It is possible to say that the combination of leotards and leggings as common dance wear is appropriate to prevent oscillation.
