Teijin has developed a new carbon fiber which has an improved tenacity and tensile modulus. September, 2015
【Supercategory:6. Products Subcategory:6.3 New products of 2015】
Teijin has developed a new carbon fiber with higher tenacity as well as higher modulus. The tenacity and modulus of this new carbon fiber are improved 10 % higher than the conventional carbon fiber employed for aircraft. Teijin plans to put the prepreg products (resin-immersed carbon fiber) into market within 2015.
Teijin’s subsidiary, Toho Tenax, has succeeded in the development of new carbon fiber whose modulus is over 325 GPa (12 % higher than the conventional carbon fiber; a measure for the deformation-resistance) while improving the tenacity as well. The structure of polyacrylonitrile (a starting material for carbon fiber) was re-examined and re-designed, and the carbonization process by heating was optimized to yield high tenacity/high modulus carbon fiber.
