TORAY developed low-temperature-dyeable polyester yarn. Conventional polyester has a high density molecular structure, so that it should be dyed at ca. 130?C under high pressure in order to penetrate dyestuff into polyester fiber. A newly developed polyester yarn provides space for dyestuff between molecules, and can be dyed at 93?C below a normal pressure (1 atm). In consequence, heat-vulnerable wool or polyurethane can be dyed together with polyester, and also the CO2 emission during the dying process could be reduced 25 % by avoiding the conventional high-temperature/high-pressure treatment.
