TORAY goes ahead with a joint research and development on “bio-based nylon” April,2012
【Supercategory:6. Products Subcategory:6.1 New products of 2013】
TORAY and AJINOMOTO plan a new business of bio-based nylon, and start a joint research on the production of a nylon monomer, pentane-1,5-diamin (abbreviated as 1,5-PD) from amino acid (lysine) produced by fermentation of plants (developed by AJINOMOTO), and subsequent polymerization of 1,5-PD to produce bio-based nylon. TORAY and AJINOMOTO have already succeeded in the test production of 1,5-PD from feedstuff lysine produced by AJINOMOTO and bio-based nylon by subsequent polymerization. The plans to scale up the production process and evaluate the application to fiber/resin are in progress.
