Asahi Kasei has developed an “electrolyzed sulfuric acid method”, together with Tokyo University of Science, etc. The method is a basic technology for continuous carbon fibre recycling, which uses oxidative active species3 generated by electrolyzing sulfuric acid to decompose the resin components of CFRP/CFRTP and extract and recycle carbon fibres. The extracted carbon fibres maintain its strength, and can be recycled as continuous carbon fibres.
