Teijin builds CO2 emission calculation method for carbon fibres. June, 2022

Teijin has built a method for calculating CO2 emissions in producing carbon fibres. It leads the company to the industry’s first success to assess life cycles of carbon fibres. For building a conversion system that enables quantification of CO2 emissions in producing carbon fibres, the company has assessed CO2 emissions in producing carbon fibre filaments used for sports, exercise, airplane and industrial applications individually. Through the assessments for the different applications, the method can be used for carbon fibre filaments for any applications, and has been certified according to ISO 14040 and 14044. The company uses it in carbon fibre filament productions currently, and in future will expand the use range to productions of staples and intermediate materials like prepreg. The method can be used for the company’s clients too.
