 Mitsubishi Chemical has developed a cyanate ester carbon fiber prepreg having high heat resistance and high strength. It is resistant to more than 250 degrees Celsius, as well as it keeps flexibility and tensile strength that carbon fibers typically have. The base resins are cyanate ester resins, which have been developed by the technology of combining raw materials and catalysts. They are more storage stable than conventional cyanate ester resins, and can be cured in the same mold as general epoxy-resin-based CFRP. The product is used as CFRP parts for racing car engines. The company aims to develop it to be used for the industrial application like robots working under high temperature, the aircrafts application, and the space application.
