 Toray has developed a CO2 separation membrane having an all-carbon two-layered structure in which hollow-fiber-shaped porous carbon fibers are used as supports, and a separation function layer of a thin carbon membrane covers them. It is durable and let CO2 through up to five times more than conventional inorganic separation membranes. Thanks to its high performance, apparatuses for which the membrane is used can be made smaller. It can be used for purification of natural gas and biogas, and can work with various separation function layers depending on gases to be separated. Also, it can be used for producing and purifying hydrogen, and for separating CO2 from discharged gas.
