Teijin developed a wearable sensor “piezoelectric fabric” in collaboration with kansai University, which monitors the movement of the fabric and digitalizes the data.
The fabric device is composed of polylactic acid (piezoelectric material) and carbon fiber (electrode), and three types of fabric sensors were developed. Those are the fabric sensors (1) to monitor bending, (2) to monitor twisting and to monitor bending/twisting/3D directions. Teijin intend to commercialize the fabric sensors in 2 to 3 years by simulating the applications as sensors and actuators.
