The sophisticated functions and mechanisms associated with the flights of insects and birds offer possibilities for innovation and improvement of aerial robots, fluid machinery, and transportation equipment. We are analyzing the excellent functions of the wings and body of insects and birds based on the approach of "biomechanical engineering", which discusses the structure and function of living things from the viewpoint of mechanical engineering, and use the knowledge obtained from them to analyze robots, fluid machinery, and transportation equipment.
