MITSUBISHI RAYON has developed carbon fiber with moderate modulus “PYROFIL MR70”, which possesses much high performance than conventional moderate modulus carbon fiber. A newly developed carbon fiber possesses a tenacity of about 7 GPA and a modulus of about 325 GPA, which improves about 20 % and 10 % in terms of tenacity and modulus, respectively, in comparison with conventional moderate modulus carbon fiber “MR60H”. A new production process was resulted from the reevaluation of the precursor of carbon fiber and the carbon fiber production process. MITSUBISHI RAYON started producing and supplying carbon fiber samples for the application in the field of airplanes and sports/leisure goods.
