New raw material for CFRP (TEIJIN) September, 2019

【Supercategory:6. Products Subcategory:6.7 New products of 2019

Teijin developed a new raw material for carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP), and has become the first in Japan to produce a raw material that is resistant to heat and shock together. Although in general, a resin is not strong enough to keep its shock resistance when strengthened its heat resistance, Teijin found out how to blend or compose resins to make a desired raw material. The new raw material has a feature in which, the resin is heat resistant to 280 degrees and is pressure resistant to 220MPa. Also, it is designed not to expand by heat, so as to keep its shape in an environment where temperature changes greatly. Also, the resin is adjusted its viscosity, so that its degree of heterogeneity is lowered and its amount of outflow is reduced when applied to carbon fibres. By the adjustment, the resin can be easily formed in a desired shape. As CFRP has increased its presence in the aerospace field, the new raw material is expected to be used for an aircraft or a spaceship.
