Toyobo has developed a nonwoven named VIABLOCK? NW. The new nonwoven is antivirus against flu virus and feline calicivirus, and also would work against Norovirus, which is genetically similar to feline calicivirus. The product has a surface on which anionic functional groups are densely formed. They can reduce virus having attached on the surface. Along with reducing such virus, it can eliminate smell like ammonia. Conducted tests prove its safety based on toxic potential, skin irritancy and others, all of which are required to get certified by a council in charge. The nonwoven is expected to be applied to masks, filters, base materials of carpets and curtains, and hospital bed clothes.
