SCIENCES of REPRODUCTION and DEVELOPMENT: joint teaching activities for PhD students with the University of Trieste, Italy

22.10.12

Shinshu University School of Medicine and the Institute for Biomedical Sciences have developed a close partnership with the University of Trieste (UniTS) in Italy over the years. It has led to successive academic events and our 2nd year PhD intensive program in Sciences of Reproduction and Development was held online on September 16, 2022.
The program started with opening remarks from Professor Gabriele Stocco, a specially appointed professor at the Institute for Biomedical Science, Shinshu University and then Associate Professor MORI Masayuki at the Department of Aging Biology Institute for Biomedical Sciences gave his lecture entitled "BALB/c-Cpoxnct mouse as an authentic model for hereditary coproporphyria". He talked about the establishment of a pathological model of hereditary porphyria and the evaluation of molecular pathogenesis using animal models. Dr. Niko Moritz from University of Turku, Finland also gave a lecture on the development of biomaterials for fracture healing. Participants from both universities asked may questions and discussed actively.
This PhD intensive program has broadened horizons of our medical students. For example, Ms. HIRAIWA Kana, a fifth-year medical student is currently visiting Prof. Stocco's lab on a basic research training program and took advantage of participating in this PhD program with her Italian lab mates. Ms. HIRAIWA is exposed to various medical research projects at the University of Trieste and has found the joy of research.
This is a hybrid project that we hope will broaden the scope of our research activities through both online meetings and in-person exchanges of visiting researchers.
We will continue to organize interactive PhD programs and also promote joint research and student/researcher exchanges between the universities.

Prof. TANAKA Naoki, Director of International Relations Office

This webinar was recorded and is accessible to Shinshu medical students on eALPS "International Exchange and Study Abroad".
