Summary of Activity

The Department of Neurosurgery, Shinshu University School of Medicine, is internationally recognized for clinical excellence, research, and teaching.  The department was established in 1978, under the auspices of Dr. Kenichiro Sugita.  Dr. Shigeaki Kobayashi had brought the department into the twenty-first century as one of the leaders of neurosurgery.  Currently, Dr. Kazuhiro Hongo organizes the department and focuses the minimum invasive neurosurgery based on the preoperative simulation, the navigation system, and the intraoperative monitoring.  Under his superb guidance, there is a marked expansion of the department's clinical and research activities.

Research Projects

Various activities are going in our department as listed below:

1. Surgical simulation using 3D neuroimaging.

2. Intraoperative monitoring.

3. Microsurgical anatomy.

4. Development of Robotic surgery.

5. Malignant glioma therapy based on genetic analysis.

6. Analysis of regional blood flow regulation in cerebral microcirculation.
