Summary of Activity

The goal of our research laboratory is to elucidate the mechanisms of human diseases using experimental and epidemiological methods, and to frame a policy for preventive medicine and public health. To this end, we have set ourselves three targets.

1. Research activity
*To apply the techniques of basic medicine and epidemiology to improve occupational and environmental health
*Risk assessment for maternal and child health, mental health and infectious diseases

2. Education
*The nurturing of talented individuals who have the relevant skills in environmental and preventive medicine
*To support doctors in community medical care who wish to use epidemiological techniques

3. Social contribution
*To make research results available in order to benefit society

Research Projects

The current projects in our laboratory are as follows:

Hygiene
*Japan Eco & Child Study (a subunit of the Koshin district center)
*Health effects of formaldehyde
*Health effects of fumigant (sulfuryl fluoride, ethylene oxide and propylene oxide)
*Dust mask assessments in occupational health

Public health
*Epidemiological study of Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome
*Child abuse prevention
*Development of devices using organic and inorganic nano-materials
*Socio-economic study of medical expenses
*Mental health for workers
*Epidemiological study of suicides
