On March 1, 12 students from the Leading program visited Fukui to exchange ideas with students at University of Fukui. This whole meeting was organized by Mr. Hiroaki Ishikawa and Ms. Hanaa Naouma, students on the Leading Program and representatives of the University of Fukui. The workshop discussed a wide variety of topics, starting with University of Fukui student's presentations. This was followed by a poster session by students from both universities. After that the Shinshu students were given a tour of laboratories and other University of Fukui facilities.

Most of the presentations, questions and answers were done in English. The poster session was a good chance to exchange ideas with people in different fields. All students looked interested in both posters, questioning and answering, and encouraged each other. During the laboratory tour, some students saw the Melt Electro Spinning Machine for the first time. There are only a few of these machines in Japan. Also they had a chance to see a Supercritical Dying Machine and Electron Beam Irradiator. It was meaningful opportunity to organise and participate in such an event. All in all it was an inspiring and enriching time for all students. We would like to thank Prof. Shin-ichiro Suye, staffs, and students of Univerisy of Fukui who gave us this opportunity.

Participation report by Ms. Jiaping Zhang (1st-year student)
1. Purpose of participation
As a student in leading program, I think it is very important to know more people, make more friends, and learn more knowledge as possible as we can. This interchange is scheduled by ourselves. We are able to improve our organizational skills and communication skills. And it is a platform for us to make more friends. Moreover, listening to others' research presentation may give us much more inspiration for our own research.

2. Issues identified as a result of participation
Even if most of specific researches were unfamiliar for me, I was really attracted and moved by interesting researches. But simultaneously I also realized that in order to understand them fully, it was necessary to broad my horizon about fiber, not only concentrate myself on cellulose. I think maybe developing a habit to read books or news would be helpful. Secondly, about asking questions, this time I tried to ask questions for others questions, but I still need to improve the ability of explaining my own opinions. Sometimes I can't explain my meaning simply and quickly in Japanese and English.

3. Results of participation
I succeed in giving a poster presentation and gaining some experience. Some suggestions from other students gave us more inspiration for the direction of research. And of course, I have made some friends. And we also went for drinking until midnight. It was really fresh to know others life styles.

4. How will you apply what you learned to your research?
According to the suggestions from others, I will check the problems and improve my research. And also I will do my best to learn other knowledge that is not only limited in cellulose. In addition, as for presentation skill, I will practice how to express my opinion fully and solve problems efficiently.
