This symposium was aimed at exchanging opinions between young researchers from Japan, China, and Korea, and each student had a fulfilling days with oral and poster presentations.

Student's report by Ms. Yin Chuan (2nd-year student)

1.Purpose of participation
The International Symposium on High-Tech Fiber Engineering for Young Researchers is held every year in Japan, China and Korea. 2015 is the 7th year of this symposium which was held in Suzhou, China. I think it is quite significant to present the work at these kinds of scientific symposium for these reasons:
Contribute to and learn about the most recent advances in our field
Advocate for our science
Learn how to talk about our data
Contribute to our overall research profile
Meet other researchers in our field
I decided to attend this symposium and try to improve my research to the best.

2.Issues identified as a result of participation
At first, I was going to present the previous work, Metal Nanoparticles Anchored on Nanofibers for Catalytic Organic Reactions. For some reason, I changed my presentation into the recent work, Fabrication and Biocompatible Evaluation of Silk Fibroin Three-dimensional Scaffold. It was a great challenge for me to make the power point slides and the poster in such a short time. But fortunately, I did it. I gave the oral and poster presentation in China.

3.Results of participation
The first thing I learned from this conference is developing human's potential to the most. Before that, I had no idea that how hard I can work or how much I am able to finish in a short time. While many of us are happy in life and do accomplish to some extent what we set out to do, there aren't many that actually push themselves that little bit further and go on to develop their full potential. While we might be particularly good at doing certain things in life we could excel if only we had the courage and belief in ourselves to go for it. All the difficulties in life could be considered as treasure to us. The second thing is that we always need some experts or researchers in the same field to give some suggestions to improve our work. When I cannot answer the questions from the audience, I should regard this as a weak point in my work, or it might be a better work after improvements. Besides that, I enjoyed this conference and this trip so much because I was always with the Japanese students. It was a great pleasure to guide all my friends in Suzhou and introduce Chinese culture and food to them. And it was also a nice opportunity to practice my Japanese. It was nice to know my friends more by playing together.

4.How will you apply what you leaned to your research?
Conference presentations allow us to present our data during many stages of development, (e.g., preliminary findings, recently collected data, or data that is waiting to be published). This will allow us to present our most up-to-date findings and receive feedback from colleagues, which will help us when we ultimately write up our study. Additionally, we have the opportunity to attend numerous exciting talks and poster sessions while at the convention. As these presentations often represent the most cutting-edge research available, they can provide us with valuable information far earlier than if we had waited for the publication. What's more, from this experience, I learned that we should never give up too early and work hard to develop our full potential.
