- Health Services
International students are more likely to become sick due to the stress
of environmental changes such as language, customs, food, etc. The following
services are available at the Center for Health, Safty and Environmental
Management (Kenko Anzen Senta) of Shinshu University. Keep yourself in good health using the services.
- Annual Medical Examination
You are recommended to take the annual physical examination (April-May) at the Center for Health Services. Medical certifications will be provided free of charge.
- Health Consultation
You can consult doctors not only about your physical problems, such as headache, fever, stomachache, injuries, etc., but also about psychological problems concerning your study and life, no matter how small your problems seem to be.
Professional consultants are available for various kinds of problems. The content of each consultation is kept confidential, so feel free to visit us.

Dates for consultation are scheduled according to the days when school doctors visit. Ask about the services at each branch of the Health Care Center.
- First Aid Treatment
You can get first aid treatment at the Center on every weekday.
- National Health Insurance(Kokumin Kenko Hoken)
If you join the National Health Insurance Plan, you pay only 30% of medical bill. You need to pay a premium on the insurance, but it may be very helpful when you are hospitalized due to serious illness or injuries. If you have a family in particular, your expenditures for the medical care may be greatly reduced.
You can apply for the Insurance Plan at your city hall.
It is recommended to use both student financial aid for medical expenses and the National Health Insurance Plan.

- Financial Aid for Medical Expenses
If you have received and paid for medical treatment for illness or injuries during your stay in Japan, 80% of your medical expenses is subsidized by the Association of International Education, Japan(Nihon Kokusai Kyoiku Kyokai).
- Application for international students' medical assistance
Patients must pay medical expenses before they apply for financial aid. The receipt of the payment is necessary for the application.
- Required forms for application
An application form for the registration for international students' medical assistance(Gaikokujin Ryugakusei Iryohi Hojo Shinseisho)
The form is available at the International Student Affairs Division(Ryugakusei-ka) of the Student Affairs Department(Gakusei-bu) and the Educational Section (Gakumu-gakari) of each Faculty.
The bill of expenditures of medical care(Shinryo Hoshu Seikyu Meisaisho) and the receipt.
If you receive treatment at Shinshu University Hospital, the former will not be required.
- Disaster and Accident Insurance for Students in Education and Research(Gakusei Kyoiku Kenkyu Saigai Shogai Hoken)
This insurance covers accidents during regular classes, school events and extracurricular activities (e.g. injury in a physical education class or burn in an experiment in class). The insurance is paid for such accidents and the amount depends on the severity.
The period of coverage is limited to the prescribed duration of study.
Ask for further information at the Student Support Division(Gakusei-shien-ka).
