Our principal aim is to promote the diversity of human culture, to advance the boundaries of technical knowledge and to equip our students with the skills and learning necessary to enable them to benefit society. In the modern technetronic age, besides merely accumulating knowledge, it is important to foster the ability to analyze information, to discover problems and to be able to work towards their solution. The University strives to produce young people who value the precious resources of the natural world, welcome the diversity of human culture and are skilled communicators. The University's unique curricula have been designed with the express aim of fulfilling these educational goals.
During their freshman year, all students study at the Matsumoto Campus, where they take general courses and theme oriented subjects, and also courses introductory to their specialized fields of study. For the remainder of their university career, students study at their respective faculties in one of the different five campuses. Each campus offers students a perfect environment in which to meet many people with different views of life. You will have many opportunities to discuss various problems with friends, teachers and scholars. We hope that you will enjoy not only studying, but also the wide range of activities made possible by clubs and voluntary organizations. Life in the University, in all its various aspects, will provide you with invaluable experiences through which you will develop the maturity and self-reliance you will need in the future.
The academic staff in each of the eight faculties conduct research at the highest level and frequently collaborate with researchers in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences in other faculties. These interdisciplinary research projects are producing new discoveries and advancing the frontiers of science and technology. The University plays a crucial role in the promotion of local industries and the preservation of the history and culture of Shinshu.
The University has produced many graduates who have gone on to become prominent figures in various fields. We hope that the current generation of students will follow them and work for the benefit of society. |
