Individual case studies of jobs outside the university include: A Japanese doctorate student researched high temperature behaviour of silicate materials- and is now applying that to scaling and corrosion in geothermal energy systems. She said that the EL program had provided knowledge of economic and social problems and solutions to environmental problems, as well as strengthening communication skills. A Chinese student graduated and returned to her native country and commented that the knowledge from the EL program inuenced her choice of future career to contribute to society by providing professional environmental solutions and working for environment-related industrial development. Another Japanese student is now working at an energy company on R&D on renewable energy from biomass, waste heat recovery etc. The student cited the ELTP as informing his view of the future through learning about environmental issues which had helped in the job interview. An Indonesian EL program graduate is now working on biomass energy in tropical countries such as Indonesia, with the aim of supporting low-carbon sustainable development. He cites the EL program as having provided an international and global perspective on environmental problems, which stimulated his interest in the environment. Finally an Egyptian graduate is now teaching on environmental issues related to wastewater/waste management and cites the 64
