講演Environmental Leadership training in Graduate Schools-challenges and opportunities-Michael Norton東北大学教授ABSTRACTThe Japanese Government has introduced a number of environmental leader (EL) training programs which led to the Green MOT program at Shinshu University and the SERMSS environmental leadership program at Tohoku University. The author has been involved in both programs and will talk about the challenges and opportunities from these two perspectives. One challenge has been met in developing effective courses in sustainability and its relation to business, which are relevant to both employees of local companies and postgraduate researchers likely to develop their career in the private and public sectors. The approach taken and evidence of the positive effect on learners is presented, and the initial career paths for 6 graduates from the Tohoku course examined. The theory of environmental leadership is also briey considered together with two examples of how business leaders can have a major impact not just on their own company but on their industry as a whole. The actions of environmental leaders is still however severely limited by constraints in the politico-economic system where lack of political leadership remains. It is in Ⅳ47
