Specially Appointed Professor Morinobu Endo Receives "Japan Society of Toxicology Special Award"

On July 3rd, 2014, at the 45th Meeting of the Japan Society of Toxicology, Specially Appointed Professor Morinobu Endo received a special award that is granted every year to a maximum of 1 researcher that is a non-member of the Society for their contributions towards raising the awareness in society and greatly developing and enhancing toxicology. The award ceremony was followed by his award acceptance speech.
Specially Appointed Professor Endo carried out research into the toxicity and safety of nanocarbon and carbon nanotubes (CNT) from the standpoint of a materials researcher in collaboration with researchers in the fields of toxicology, medicine, and biology. By advocating "Design safe nano" from the point of view of responsible development of nanotechnology, he showed the way to 21st century materials development and demonstrated to the world how to achieve co-creation in the field of nanomaterials and the toxicology, medical, and biochemical fields for safe innovation. He presented many papers jointly authored with the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and in 2010 received the Alice Hamilton Award from the US Center of Disease Control together with an NIOSH researcher. He has frequently given invited lectures at international conferences on the safety of nanomaterials.
