Distinguished Visiting Professor

System for Inviting Distinguished Visiting Professors

In order to accelerate research from a global viewpoint, notable researchers from overseas are invited to each of the institutes of the Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research. Units (research groups) based on Distinguished Visiting Professors are also invited. The aim is to strengthen the research power in each research institute while utilizing the strengths and characteristics of Shinshu University, and form a global level education and research base including education of students and training of young researchers through research guidance, etc.

Her recent research activities are in the area of carbon nanotubes, bismuth nanowires and low dimensional thermoelectricty.
Research Theme
Regarding carbon nanotubes, she has been developing the method of Raman spectroscopy as a sensitive tool for the characterization of single wall carbon nanotubes. Additionally, she has devised a way to prepare arrays of aligned bismuth nanowires down to 7 nm diameter preserving the crystal structure of bulk bismuth, and she is now studying their thermoelectric properties.

Food derived anti-inflammatory peptides and their molecular targets, mucosal immunology and molecular allergology of food allergens, moleclular mechanisms of food allergy tolerance induction.
Research Theme
One of the main research topics is gut health and immunity, and identifying bioactive food factors that promote gut health. It is known that gut inflammatory damage and oxidative stress are large contributing factors in the pathogenesis of various human disorders including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, inflammatory conditions, and neurological processes. Thus, identifying bioactive dietary peptides with anti-oxidative or anti-inflammatory properties provides promising applications in the reduction of local inflammation in the gut, as well as reducing the incidence of disorders such as cancer and diabetes. Our work also focuses on the allosteric activation of the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), which is involved in the anti-inflammatory effects of dietary dipeptides.
Another main research focus is the allergology of egg allergens (e.g. Glycation) such as ovomucoid and ovalalbumin. We examine the modulation of Th1/Th2-associated cytokines and T-regulatory cells, the mechanism of antigen transportation across the human intestinal epithelium.

Dr. Li was graduated from China Medical University in 1996 and got his PhD from Shinshu University Schools of Medicine (Japan) in 2001. He did his post-doc researches at UCLA since 2002 and was promoted to the assistant researcher (research assistant professor) in the Department of Neurobiology in 2007. He was a Project Leader of the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) after he set up his lab in China since 2009. His lab focus on the mechanism and therapeutic of neuropsychiatric disorders by using animal modeling approaches. Recently, he also initiated a “China Super Brain Research Center” to investigate the brain function of the people with extraordinary abilities. Dr. Li won several prestigious awards, including Young Investigator Awards of National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD) and the Children’s Tumor Foundation in US, Shanghai “Shu Guang” Scholar, Shanghai “Pujiang Talent” and Shanghai “Eastern Scholar”.
