Takeuchi LabInourlaboratory,wearestudyingthenanocarbons(carbonmaterialswithinnovativefunctionsbyprecisestructurecontrolinnanometerlevel)representedbythecarbonnanotubewhichisregardedasthe21stcenturymaterial.Byprecisestructurecontrolofthenanocarbon,wehaveappliedtohigh-functionalnanocomposite,ultralightweightwire,high-performancelithiumionbatteryandelectricdoublelayercapacitor,nextgenerationfuelcellandhigh-performancemembrane.Carbonisan‘‘oldbutnew’’material.Ithasbeenattractingattentionasanadvancedmaterial..Nanocarboncanbeappliedtovariousfieldsbyprecisestructurecontrolinatomicandmolecularlevel.Lithiumionbatterythatisusedincellphones,notebookcomputersandelectricvehicleshaveahighperformance,butcapacityisnotstillenough.However,itispredictedthatlithiumionbatteryshowhighcapacityofmorethanthecurrent10timesbythenovelnanocarboninthenearfuture.Currently,watershortageisabigproblemallovertheworld.Thecurrentreverseosmosismembranehaveahighperformancebutchemicalresistanceanddurabilityarenotenough,thereforepracticaluseisnotprogressing.So,wewillactivelypromotetheinnovativewaterseparationmembranewithrobustbyusingnanocarbons.KenjiTakeuchiAssociate ProfessorGraduated ShinshuUniversity,Main research field insynthesis of nanocarbonsand their applications.
