After studying the adherence and effects of our long-term interval walking training program, we have learned that a higher adherence to the program is associated with greater improvements in physical fitness and risk factors for lifestyle-related diseases. When we searched for factors affecting adherence, we found that men carrying 2 specific types of the V1a receptor gene, roughly 15% of the male participants, had markedly lower adherence (Figure). Regarding the mechanism of this phenomenon, studies using mice with genetically or pharmacologically impaired central V1a receptors that control pressor response at the onset of exercise, which was reportedly needed to increase blood flow to contracting muscles and enable smooth movement, show that the response did not occur with reduced voluntary locomotion. Thus, we surmised that the lower adherence in subjects with a particular genotype may have been due to similar mechanisms. These findings will be helpful in the development of exercise programs tailored to individual genetic variation. We have also used this exercise program to identify specific supplements that enhance physical benefit. Based on our achievements at Shinshu University, I would like to promote the training program overseas and establish a world standard. We have reported for the past decade that “interval walking training”, which is alternating fast and slow walking for 3 minutes each for over 30 min/day, 4 days/week, and 5 months, increases physical fitness, decreases risk factors for lifestyle-related diseases, and reduces medical expenses, all by 20%. I believe that my mission as an RS researcher is to extend this training regimen overseas and raise it to a world standard.RS教員としての抱負 Rising Star Researcher's Aspirations 職 名 学術研究院 准教授(医学系)/博士(医学)学 歴 1998年 奈良女子大学生活環境学部 卒業 2000年 信州大学大学院工学系研究科 博士前期課程 修了 2003年 信州大学大学院医学研究科 修了(医学博士)職 歴 2000年~2001年 信州大学医学研究科 リサーチアシスタント 2002年~2003年 信州大学医学研究科 リサーチアシスタント 2003年 信州大学大学院医学研究科特別研究員 2003年 米国Mayo Clinic博士研究員 2005年 信州大学大学院医学系研究科加齢適応医科学系専攻スポーツ医科学教室助教 2012年 信州大学大学院医学系研究科疾患予防医科学系専攻助教 2014年 信州大学先鋭領域融合研究群バイオメディカル研究所助教 2015年 信州大学先鋭領域融合研究群バイオメディカル研究所准教授研究分野 環境生理学(含体力医学・栄養生理学)研究テーマ 運動を核にした予防医学の確立Position Academic Assembly Associate Professor (Institute of Medicine), Ph.
