KunimuneLabWhydoyoustudyattheschool?Howdoyoustudy?Doyouhaveanyclearanswerstothesequestions?Ifyouhavenotconsideredthesethings,Universitywouldbeagoodplacetoconsiderandpractice“howtolearn”and“howtotransferalearningmethodtoothersubjects”inadditionacquiringhighlyspecializedknowledgeandskill.Themembersofthelab.aredevelopingsomesystemstosupporteducatorsandlearnersintheviewpointsofknowledgeacquisition,learning“learningmethods”,andtransferringlearningmethods.Thesystemswedeveloppartiallysupporteducatorsandlearnerswiththeabilitiesofcomputersandnetworks.Theabilitiesareincreasingwiththerapidexpansionoftheinformationandcommunicationtechnology,andthecoverageofeducationalsupportisalsoexpanding.However,educatorsandlearnersarerealpeople,notcomputers.Thegoalofoursystemsissupportingthemtomakethemfocusonlyontheessence.Hisayoshi Kunimune, Ph.D. is an assistant professor with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, ShinshuUniversity. His research interests focus on educational/learning technology and developing educational support systems.“Writable Web” system enables it’s users to write memos and communicate with other users directly on web pages.Creating Support Environment forBetter Education and Learning“AT” system offers an environment to learn programming for novice learners without knowledge of programming languages.Thegraduatesofthelab.areactiveinvariouscompaniesincludingsystemintegrators,infrastructureproviders,electronicmanufacturers,andsoon.Themembersofthelab.cultivatetheirattitudeaboutsolvingproblemsthroughtheirresearchprocess,andutilizeitintheirlife.After GraduationIn the FutureElectrical& Computer EngineeringShiraiLabDoyouhavearegrettableexperiencethatyourbestshotisactuallynotsogood?Inparticular,darkplacephotographingorbacklightphotographingaredifficultforus.However,thedifficultyofhardwarecanbeaddressedbysoftware.Forexample,Ifyoutakeanotherimageandmakeapairofflashandno-flashimages,youcanobtainanoise-lessandblur-lessclearimageusingarecentcomputationmethod.Ourlaboratorydevelopsmethodstoobtainmorenaturalandhighresolutionimageslikewearefeeling.Imageprocessing,especiallythecategoryofimagerestoration,stillhasamountainofproblemstoaddress.Forexample,deblurringofimagestakenwithhandheldcameraisstilldifficultone.However,iftheycanbesolved,wecanobtainmoreclearandhighresolutionimages.Inaddition,thebenefitsimprovetheaccuracyofitsapplicationfieldssuchasimagerecognitionforroboticsandsecuritysystem.KeiichiroShiraiAssistant Professorreceived the Ph.D. degree from Keio University in 2006.
