Visiting Professor Motohiro Maebuchi修了生の声Voice of Graduates私は、2014年に博士号を取得し、2014年度から農学部附属アルプス圏フィールド科学教育研究センターの教員として働いています。私は、学部生から修士・博士課程までの間を信州大学で学びました。研究は、植物栄養学研究室に在籍し、イネ、ソバ、雑穀を研究対象として新しい植物栄養診断手法の開発に携わりました。これらの研究対象は、長野県にイネの多収地帯があることや、ソバ処と知られていること、雑穀の文化が残っていることに深い関わりがあるものです。信州大学には、私の研究に限らずアルプスなどの自然や、精密機器メーカーを支える風土と技術、先人の知恵を継承した食品など、数えきれないほど多くの研究基盤が存在します。博士課程は、研究職に就いた私にとっても純粋に研究に没頭できた貴重な時間であり、現在の基礎になっています。在学中は、指導教員から研究の歴史・背景・哲学に及ぶ「研究とはかくあるべきか」を学びました。また、多くの先生方が研修者の卵として多岐にわたる指導を頂きました。そういったことが現在のキャリアにつながっています。研究をとりまく環境は、激しく変化しているため困難が多いかもしれません。しかし、好奇心、探究心、忍耐があれば、サイエンスの扉が開くはずです。理系の分野は、新知見が報告され、修士課程に進んでも、研究の面白いところまで辿りつきにくいと感じています。多くの人に博士課程へと進学してほしいと思っています。人生は一度きりです。学問の扉をたたき、一緒に学問の世界を楽しみませんか。I’m Mikio Sekinuma, and I received a doctor of philosophy in Agricultural Science at Shinshu University in 2014. Also in 2014, I started my research life by taking an academic position with Bulletin Shinshu University Alpine Field Center. I had studied at Shinshu University between my bachelors and doctoral programs. My research objective was development of new diagnosis methods for plant nutrition, and I studied rice, buckwheat, and some types of millet, specifically. My objectives were closely linked to Nagano Prefecture, which offers many bases for research in its history; its nature, such as the Japanese Alps; and its people and customs, including precision equipment manufacturing, traditional food, and educational philosophy. These relationships benefit and improve the quality of research. Thus, Shinshu University presents favorable circumstances for science learning.While I was a doctoral student, I learned from my professor about the definition of research, the purpose of research, and how to approach a research theme. In addition, other teachers advised me about student life, relationships with others, career choices, and our mission at the university. This advice carried through to my career and my current position.Nowadays, research environments change constantly, which can be hard for students. However, the most important things to focus on during research are discovering new things and enjoying the process of inquiry into the truth. Cultivating a researcher’s mind will show you a new world and expand your career.
