Nagano Brand Local FoodsTraining for financial institution coordinatorsNagano brand product development has been selected as a “Creating Local Activate Human Resources Fostering Institutions” program of Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Nagano brand product development projects are being operated in collaboration of Faculty of Engineering, and the local community. We present ourselves at “Universities are Delicious!!” fair every year where jams and wines from our Faculty of Agriculture are also sold to provide our unique food topics from Shinshu. This training is arranged for those who work in financial institutions to be engaged with Shinshu University as collaborative coordinators. They become our reliable partners who can match our academic seeds with enterprise needs using their information and connections. Having involved financial cooperation, industry-university-government cooperation has become more active in any research fields of Shinshu University, such as environment, energy, medicine, fiber, bio-engineering, agriculture, etc. The financial coordinator training for bank personnel contributes to match our academic seeds and the technical seeds of local enterprises. Shinshu University “Forest of Knowledge Exhibition” introduces our research seeds to the community, too.In the medical-engineering collaborative life innovation field, we established Shinshu Incubation Center for Medical Device and Functional Food Development. Also, Shinshu Medical Industry Association was organized to collaborate with companies and organizations. For this, Center for Shinshu Medical Innovation of Regional Technology was built to establish an ideal system that researchers from private companies and medical experts work together on research projects.Also, the green innovation area is an important aspect of the environmental energy strategy of our country. For this, we are working on a new water management model project to promote research development on conservation and usage of water resources, integrating humanities and science.In the Agri-innovation field, “Food and Agriculture Industrial Development (FAID)”, which enhances development and application of technologies for turning agriculture into the sextic industry is promoting collaborations of agriculture-commerce-engineering together with the farm unions. “Promotion Organization for Agri-innovation in Ina Valley Region” has been established, for the Faculty of Agriculture and the local companies to work together on solving semi-mountainous area issues, etc. and promote new agricultural and forestry business, and their activities are getting intensified.Near-Future Self-Contained Walking Assistance Cyborg ProjectShinshu University’s Interdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research (ICCER) is currently developing cyborg science to help mobilize people who have difficulty walking due to intractable diseases. The technology will utilize intramedullary nail surgery to implant walking assistance devices equipped with smaller, lighter, and more highly performing components along with contactless rechargeable batteries based on the technologies now used in “curara®” Robotic Wear. This cutting-edge project by ICCER’s four member institutes is Japan’s first ever collaboration of medicine, engineering, and fiber science.21
