As well as undertaking projects that include COI, industry-academia partnerships and inter-university cooperation are promoted and efforts are made to bring together prominent researchers and research facilities.Functional composite materials with outstanding conductivity, light weight and robustness are created by combining nanocarbons with metal, resin, rubber and various other materials. New technologies are developed for applying nanocarbons and nanocarbon composite materials to energy devices, electronics and biomaterials. The generation and structure of new forms of nanocarbons utilizing the bonding states of abundant carbon elements are analyzed and new properties are elucidated. Nanocarbon synthesis is upgraded, nanocarbons with subtly controlled properties are synthesized with reduced environmental load, and advanced evaluation technologies that include in-situ analysis are established.Support is provided for industry and joint studies are conducted utilizing cutting-edge facilities amassed for nanocarbon research. In addition to promoting sharing of Shinshu University facilities with private companies through projects subsidized or commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, support for industry and research partnerships involving local entities are promoted through support for joint research.Introduction of DivisionsInterdisciplinary Cluster for Cutting Edge Research (ICCER) ①11
