Radiowavesarenotvisible,butveryusefulforcellphonesandwirelesscommunications.Ourresearchsubjectintroducedhereis“visiblelightcommunications”.TheinformationcanbecarriedbythevisiblelightemittedfromanLEDbyturningiton/offbasedontheinformationdata.Becauseyouseethelight,youknowwheretheinformationisfrom,andifyouhavetroublereceivingtheinformation,youknowwherethesourceofthetroubleis.Andtheinformationdoesnotreachinthedirectionwhereyoublockthelight(confidentiality).Inaddition,youcancommunicatewitheachotherunderwater,throughtheglass,andeveninplacesprohibitedtouseradiowavessuchashospitals,aslongasthelightreaches..Energy-savingLEDlampsareinstalledeverywhere.SoifsuchLEDlampsareequippedwiththevisiblelightcommunicationfunction,theycansendoutthesignalsofterrestrialdigitalbroadcastingandpositioningsignalslikeGPSinsteadofradiosignals.Andyouwillbeabletogetthedetailedmapofthesurroundingareaunderthestreetlamps.Visiblelightcommunicationisarelativelynewtechnology,soitsfuturedependsontheideasofyoungpeople.ShiroHandaProfessorsince 2005,after KobeUniversity andNagano National College of Technology.
