Filtration using polymer membranesDEPARTMENTOFCHEMISTRYANDMATERIALENGINEERINGDepartment of Chemistry and Material EngineeringFacultySome organic molecules have left-handed and right-handed isomers that are mirror images of each other. For some pharmaceuticals, their right-handed isomers work as medicine, while their left-handed isomers can be toxic, so it is important Organic synthesis of pharmacologically active heterocyclesWe develop a variety of functional materials by “plating”, one which is an electrochemical technique. Especially, we investigate the creation of metal/carbon-nanotube composite materials by plating and their application as lithium battery materials, fuel cell materials, display materials, catalyst materials, heat radiation materials, and abrasion-proof materials.Creation of functional materials by “plating”We conduct research on polymeric separation membranes that can be used to filter out and collect specific substances from a mixture. We create organic/inorganic hybrid membranes and film and hollow-fiber ion-exchange membranes and examine the permeability of substances through these membranes.Mica crystal flake researchSHINSHU UNIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOOL OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MASTER’S PROGRAM021Mica consists of flaky crystal particles. We have been conducting research on synthesis and application of micas for many years. We are working on synthesis and morphology control of novel swelling mica crystals, mica ceramics and composites, and synthesis and functionalization of to produce such molecules selectively and efficiently. We develop reaction methods to produce only one type of isomer, especially heterocycles often forming pharmaceuticals.Yasunori Toda, Assistant ProfessorSynthetic Organic ChemistryDevelopment of novel reactions using catalystsYukihisa Okumura, ProfessorMolecular Aggregate ChemistryCreation of membrane structures and microchemical systems based on molecular aggregates, especially liposomesTomohiro Yamaguchi, Associate ProfessorInorganic Materials Chemistry and CeramicsResearch on synthesis and application of various inorganic materials focusing on mica and alminaNaoyuki Shinohara, Associate ProfessorElectrochemistryPlating with multiple metals to form an alloy with superior properties than single metalToshio Sakai, Associate ProfessorColloid and Interface ChemistryDevelopment of nanomaterials by using nanoscopic space and interface in fluidsMasahiro Mizuno, Assistant ProfessorProtein Functional EngineeringResearch on relationship between functions and 3D structures of protein such as carbohydrate-related enzymesTomohiko Okada, Associate ProfessorAdsorption and Catalytic ChemistryDevelopment of adsorbents with selectivity and solid catalysts for environmental purificationHirohisa Uchida, Associate ProfessorChemical Engineering, Supercritical Fluid Engineering, and Crystallization Engineering Creation and processing of supercritical fluid materials and development of chemical processes regarding separation and refinementRyotaro Kiyono, Associate ProfessorPolymer Materials and Separation EngineeringAnalyses on substance transportation phenomena through polymer membranesKouichi Nozaki, Associate ProfessorBiological Chemistry and Genetic EngineeringProduction and improvement of biomass conversion enzymes by using gene recombination technologiesHiroyuki Suga, ProfessorSynthetic Organic ChemistryDevelopment of novel methodologies and molecular catalyst focusing on synthesis of pharmacologically active heterocyclic compoundsYoshihiko Amano, ProfessorBiological Chemistry and Enzymatic ChemistryDevelopment of technologies based on biological functions, focusing on biomass conversion technologiesSusumu Arai, ProfessorApplied ElectrochemistryResearch on creation of functional materials by plating and other electrochemic methodologiesSeiichi Taruta, ProfessorInorganic Materials Chemistry and Inorganic ChemistryInvestigation on novel functions of mica ceramics and development of ceramic composites using carbon nanotubes and other materialsMiyokaUedaEntered in 2013 / Dr. Arai's LabIn the Department of Chemistry and Material Engineering, I'm working on the development of a wide range of new materials in the chemical field. We are also given lectures in graduate school, but, in contrast to those in undergraduate school, we aren't just taught from scratch. Instead, we learn by ourselves and discuss with other students to deepen our expert knowledge.Participation in academic conferences also deepens the knowledge of my research area.My objective is to develop materials or technologies that can be practically used in the future.A variety of advanced studies taking into account the harmony between society and materialsThrough development of new useful materials and research on unprecedented utilization of materials, we foster high-level engineers and researchers with expert knowledge of cutting-edge technologies, flexible ideas, and the ability to apply these technologies and ideas.Life has a detailed blueprint, called DNA, and proteins are produced according to the information in DNA. Among proteins, enzymes have catalytic functions and can be utilized for biomass conversion or synthesis of useful saccharides. By using genetic modification technologies and X-ray crystallographic analysis, we aim to enhance enzymatic functions and their reliability to realize environment-friendly chemical processes.Application of biological functions to development and manufacturingporous mica composites having microporosity in their interlayer region.RecentCareerPathsIbiden, Osaka Sealing Printing, Kao, Kyowa Hakko Kirin, Kurita Water Industries, Kobe Steel, KOSÉ, KOA, Shionogi, Sharp, Shin-Etsu Chemical, Shinko Electric Industries, Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo, Tamagawa Seiki, Teijin, TDK, Toppan Printing, Nagano Prefectural Police Department, Nichicon, Nissan Chemical Industries, Nitto Denko, Nippon Kayaku, NGK Spark Plug, Hamamatsu Photonics, Fujikura, Fujifilm, Mimaki Engineering, The Yokohama Rubber, Rubycon
