It will do so based on strong industrial, academic, and governmental partnerships operating across Japan and by applying R&D results in areas such as carbon and fiber materials (areas where Shinshu University and other project partners are especially strong) as well as the manufacturing technologies available in Nagano Prefecture and elsewhere in Japan. These efforts will be made with the ultimate goal of ensuring safe and reliable water supplies for people around the world.Research staff from universities and other institutions, engineers, and other professionals from the private sector will gather from across Japan to work at the facility on a full-time basis. Activities will include the development of durable water-separation membranes and other technologies employing innovative materials such as nanocarbons. Also included will be modularization, systematization, and mass production at plants, as well as commercial development activities related to separation membranes and other technologies. The goal of these efforts will be to achieve practical applications for innovative water production and circulation systems.Merging world-leading technologies from across JapanThe facility will devise versatile, innovative water-circulation systems and promote their implementation in society.(Source: Hitachi, Ltd.)The central building of the facility, chosen for MEXT’s program to develop Global Scientific Centers of Innovation Through Industry-Academy Partnership Utilizing Community Resources, slated for construction on the Nagano (Engineering) Campus (conceptual drawing of completed building)Innovative carbon technologies are used to isolate useful substances.
