Graduate School of Science and Technology(Master's Program)>Department of Biomedical Engineering

Department of Biomedical Engineering

Overview

We develop advanced professional engineers who can systematically solve the real problems of life, medical care, health care, and welfare fields. On our systematic curriculum, which includes not only the lectures but also the experiments, the training and the internships, it is possible to get not only the knowledge but also the abilities to set a problem, to bring it into action, to understand it and to solve it.
Degree: Master of Biomedical Engineering

Philosophy and Goals

Through collaboration among medical science, engineering, textile science, agriculture and science, our department offers practical research and education across the faculties, and builds the system on which the researchers and graduate students from different fields study together on the same themes (integrated education of different fields, providing a 'flow-type' style of education about humans and places), and develops the human resources who contribute to society as follows:

  • Unique persons who have special knowledge and skills through rare and real experiences, and who are able to promote industry-academia-government collaboration
  • Academic researchers who have the ability to develop products, or corporate researchers who have medical knowledge
  • Professionals who can manage the innovation of industry-academia-government collaboration, which includes intellectual property matters.
  • Professionals for regulatory sciences
  • Researchers who are active worldwide

Target Human Resources and Their Capabilities

Target Human Resources

  • Advanced professional engineers in the field of science, engineering, agriculture, and medical care who are active in the fields of health, social, medical and drug discovery to help deal with an ageing society with fewer children
  • Development researchers who have the ability to develop the products and the knowledge for medical science, and who can be active in the field of medical science and welfare worldwide such as business enterprises
  • Advanced professional engineers in the field of science, engineering, agriculture, and medical care who can be active in regulatory science (A science that adapts technological achievements to social and human needs in the most optimal way, by making precise predictions, evaluations, and judgments based on evidence.)

Target Capabilities

  • Ability to solve problems comprehensively based on the basic knowledge of medical science, science, engineering, textile science, and agriculture, and the specialized knowledge of healthcare, welfare, medical care, and drug discovery

Main Courses

Various companies (in the field of medical equipment, precision machinery or equipment, drugs, foods, electric machinery or equipment, electric parts or devices, general machinery or equipment, info-communication equipment, chemical industry, textile or spinning industry, etc.), medical institutions, teachers, public servants, going on to a doctorate program

Eligible Qualifications

  • Junior high school teacher specialized license, high school teacher specialized license (science)

Curriculum Policy

Based on a basic science grounding gained from a bachelor's degree in medical science, engineering, textile science, agriculture, and science, the Department of Biomedical Engineering aims to cultivate the advanced knowledge and research methods required for advanced, specialized professionals or development researchers who are active in the field of health, medical care, and welfare. To achieve this, students who have studied science or engineering will learn the basics of medical science and biology, students who have studied health, biology, or agriculture will learn the basics of science and engineering, and then all pursue their own specialized studies. We have medical internships that utilize the internal and external institutions of the university to enhance practical education.
We formulate a curriculum that consists of finishing the thesis for the degree as the central point, and seminars, lectures, experiments, practical training, and exercises as surrounding points.

Diploma Policy

On the basis of the target of the graduate course and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, we gives master's degree to the students who cultivated enough knowledge and ability as shown below, and who match the conferment principles for the degree defined by every division:

  1. Wide range of knowledge and an ethical perspective that helps to enhance science and technology as a researcher or an engineer in the field of health, welfare, medical care, and drug discovery
  2. Advanced, specialized knowledge and practical technology in the field of health, welfare, medical care, and drug discovery that diversely support an environmentally harmonious and knowledge-based society
  3. Advanced ability to collect, analyze and release information to the world to help deal with various problems
  4. A critical mind that enables students to explain logically their own thinking on the basis of their specialized knowledge
