Research Field
In Ohta Laboratory, we study liquid crystalline materials engineering in the field of organic functional materials engineering. We focus especially on ｡ﾈSyntheses and Functionalities of Discotic Metallomesogens (= Metal-containing Liquid Crystals)｡ﾉ. To date, we have succeeded in the syntheses of many novel discotic metallomesogens, and we also have successfully revealed many interesting phase structures of supramolecular assemblies. Our main research works: (1) Development of the discotic liquid crystals to directly visualize van der Waals forces, (2) Development of discotic liquid crystalline semiconductors, and (3) Development of the apparatus for microwave-assisted organic reactions and rapid syntheses of liquid crystals.
