Objectives

Based on both the philosophy of the Faculty of Science and that of Shinshu University, here at the Faculty of Science we hold as our purpose education, research, social contribution and international interchange.

Education

We aim to educate human resources who are constantly intellectually inquisitive and questioning of all spectrums of the natural world. Not only do they hold a deep understanding of their specific field, these well-qualified people also respond flexibly to challenges outside their speciality. Their broad outlook and adaptability make them valuable members of society. By using the outstanding natural environment of Shinshu as an educational resource, we strive to educate our successors who can contribute to scientific advance in harmony with nature.

Research

Based on unwavering intellectual curiosity and an inquisitive mind, using mathematical scientific theory we will work to minutely investigate the rules that lie within the background and phenomenon of the natural world. We aim to promote creative research that contributes to the advancement of mankind, while maintaining a harmonious balance between nature and society that will benefit the continued development of mankind. We will present our accomplishments to the region and the world and build a research environment that allows the successors of the next generation of scientific development to progress into the future.

Social Contribution

We are aware of our role as the intellectual stronghold of the region and work for the preservation of the natural environment of Shinshu, sustaining people's living environment, the advancement of regional industry and involvement in life-long learning. We actively work to contribute to society's sophisticated information technology and internationalization and through close-knit cooperation with both the local community and people in associated fields. The Faculty of Science at Shinshu University to is "open" to society.

International Contribution

By utilizing Shinshu's bountiful natural environment, education and superior research base, we cooperate with researchers from many countries and proactively accept overseas students, working to fulfill our role as the center of Shinshu's international exchange.
