Challenging yourself to become a better person for the benefit of society

In recent years, society has come to demand that engineers have a range of abilities in addition to their expert knowledge.  It is of crucial importance for engineers to have outstanding moral values, a positive attitude and courage to take on challenging tasks without fear of failure.
Society now seeks individuals who have learned throughout their school years to take the  initiative in terms of thinking, decision making and actions.
Merely getting good grades is not enough.

The Faculty of Engineering at Shinshu University has the good fortune to be situated in an area of natural beauty.  This provides the perfect environment for students to relax and think about their future goals and to broaden their horizons.

Here I would like to address briefly the education, research and social contributions of the faculty.  We have promoted the use of information technology in education with the establishment of our Internet Graduate School.
In accordance with our focus on the environment, we educate students on our "Eco-campus", which has obtained ISO14001 certification.  In terms of research, we conduct world-class leading-edge research on carbon nanotechnology at our Carbon Science Research Center.  Through these and other education and research activities, we have made great contributions to society.
