Can I take major subjects conducted in English?

We provide some major subjects or research work conducted in English at some graduate schools. Please contact your desired graduate school for more information. However we cannot provide undergraduate program conducted in English.

Are there any student exchange programs at Shinshu University?

There are two types of programs for students through university-level student exchange agreements between Shinshu University and overseas educational institutions.

  1. Apply for Shinshu University Exchange Students Program operated by Center for Global Education and Collaboration (GEC). Please refer to the following website or inquire by Contact Form.

Can I take Japanese language class?

Once you are enrolled in Shinshu University, you are eligible to join Intensive Japanese Language Courses on the Matsumoto campus. If you want to study Japanese on another campus, Japanese supplementary classes are available on the Nagano, Ueda, Ina campuses. For further details, Please refer to the following website.

I would like to know the Academic Calendar of Shinshu University.

Our academic year begins on April 1 and ends on March 31 of the following year. It is divided into two semesters:
First Semester: April 1 -September 30
Second Semester: October 1 -March 31
There are vacations in summer, winter and spring.

Shinshu University advises all new international students from abroad to enter Japan with a "Student Visa". Please contact your Faculty / Divison once you have received an acceptance letter. For further information, please refer to the following website.

How much will it usually cost to live in Nagano?

Due to lower consumer prices, living expenses are low in Nagano compared to other major cities like Tokyo or Osaka. However, it is strongly advised to prepare enough expenses ( between 50,000 JPY to 100,000 JPY per month), depending on your personal taste and circumstances.

Am I allowed to do a part-time job?

Yes. The Japanese Government allows international students to work up to 28 hours per week, provided that you secure permission from the immigration office. For more information, please refer to the following website.
